◆ Setup
A capable candidate running a search the long way.
Jennie is a senior financial-services marketer. The kind of candidate every recruiter says they want. And yet four months in, she was running into a familiar pattern: roles she'd applied to going quiet, interesting conversations that didn't progress, and a slow drift toward whichever offer might come first regardless of fit.
The problem wasn't that Jennie didn't know how to look for work. It was that "knowing how to look" was a 2018 skill, and the market had quietly rewritten the rules.
◆ What ShortList did
Two runs. The second one was the one.
- First ShortList: calibration. Jennie ran a current target through ShortList. The confidence score came back lukewarm — the role looked right on paper but the org's last three hires in that seat had churned within 18 months. ShortList flagged the pattern. Jennie passed.
- Second ShortList: Pinnacle. Jennie ran the Pinnacle Financial role through ShortList. Confidence: hot. Stakeholder map identified two real decision-makers (not the three named on the JD). Exact-phrase prompts gave Jennie the language for the panel's actual concern: whether she could move fast inside a regulated environment.
- Coaching block. The standard output included the question patterns Jennie should expect, the order they'd come in, and the moments she'd want to slow down. She rehearsed once and walked in calibrated.
- Groundwork delivered same week as offer. The moment Jennie accepted, Groundwork (free with her subscription) ran the first-90-days plan. By the time she walked into Pinnacle on day one, she had week-one ground rules, the 30-day diagnostic, and a stakeholder cadence already in hand.
◆ Outcome
Offer accepted. Day one looked like day forty.
Jennie's new CMO told her after the first quarter that she "moved like someone who'd been there a year." That's not luck. That's a search that ended with the right role and an onboarding that started before the start date.
"I'd been searching for four months and getting nowhere on my own. Two ShortLists in, I had the offer at Pinnacle. Then Groundwork was on my desk before my start date. Changed how my new CMO talks about me."
